Full morocco binding with gilt borders and lettering to board and all edges gilt, together with softcover supplementary work, The Original Alice, in a pictorial gilt-lettered box, which incorporates a photograph by Lewis Carroll. Very slight rubbing to edge of box and corners of book. Clean and fresh. Carroll's handwritten manuscript, with his illustrations, has been reproduced from British Library Add. MS. 46700, Alice's Adventures under Ground being the original title of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Sally Brown's complementary work on Alice Liddell, the inspiration for Carroll's titular character, was first published by the British Library in 1997. This work also discusses Tenniel's original illustrations and one can therefore compare his and Carroll's illustrations. Book measures 19.5cms tall, while the box is 26.5cms tall.
