MC4-DIODE : In-Line Diode for Reverse Current Protection

Description This MC4-DIODE is an in-line diode for reverse current protection. Can be used to prevent batteries from back feeding to panels at night, and to optimize systems with multiple solar panels wired in parallel. Rated for 20A max. Simply plug into your solar panel’s positive ( ) solar output connector using the standard MC4 connector. When do I need these? Think of these diodes as one-way valves. So you might need them when your off-grid system design is not typical (ie NOT: solar module > charge controller > battery). Or when you have mis-matched solar modules or string voltages and you want to prevent a higher voltage string from backfeeding a weaker one. Most modern solar panels have blocking & bypass diodes built-in, thereby preventing the backfeeding of battery energy into the solar modules at night. Check your solar panel’s spec sheet to know if yours contain blocking diodes already. Solar charge controllers serve the same function of preventing backflow. Grid-tied inverters also do not allow reverse current flow.
